The differences between the two styles can be summarized by noting that Broadway style tap is musical theater style show dancing and rhythm style tap uses tap dancing as a percussive musical instrument, similar to playing the drums. Broadway tap is more focused on the way a dance looks and rhythm tap is more focused on the way a dance sounds, however those are only broad generalizations, because of course all tap dancers care about how they look and sound.
