About the Tap City Award

Information about the Tap City Awards presented by the American Tap Dance Foundation (ATDF), a New York City based organization established by Tony Waag in 2001.

The American Tap Dance Foundation presents three different types of awards every year, to significant and deserving tap dancers, tap dancing ensembles, or other tap dancing entities of the past or present. The ATDF Awards Ceremony is one of the events at Tony Waag's annual Tap City Festival in New York City.

ATDF Awards by Type

Hoofer Award
Annual award presented to prominent, individual tap dance artists who have demonstrated leadership in their communities, who have made unique contributions to the art form, and who have inspired future generations of tap dancers.

Tap Preservation Award
Annual award presented to outstanding individuals or organizations in the field of tap dance who have significantly advanced the art of tap dancing through preservation projects and presentations.

Tap Dance Hall of Fame Award
Annual award presented to legendary tap dance individuals or ensembles by preserving their legacy for future generations. The Tap Dance Hall of Fame was established in 2002.
